This scheme has a proven track record for accelerating learning in ICT and supports cross curricular teaching and assessment. OFSTED highlights the excellent practice and approach of this scheme.

Assessment & Target Setting
Developed from the ICT National Curriculum 2000 and QCA guidance for all Key Stages. Dr John’s DEA provides continuous ICT assessment across the curriculum indicating the individual child’s capability and NC level.

Children aim to become ‘Digital Experts’ and work towards Dr John’s Digital Excellence Awards in all areas of ICT across all subjects.

Early Years & SEN children.
The children work with Digit Bear through 6 action based awards which cover all areas of the Foundation Stage. A digital record assesses the child’s development across the WHOLE Foundation Profile not simply ICT.
A practical ideas bank supports Early Years good practice.
• The Bronze Awards can be used for SEN ‘inclusion’ pupils working on‘P scales’. Includes a separate digital assessment tracking system.
• Used in Special Schools to support a step by step approach.
Transition between Key Stages is a key element of the scheme.
A child in your school will have a individual digital portfolio and will work through the criteria of an award, towards a certificate and badge.
A dual approach can be used: cross curriculum and /or skills based learning.
Dr John’s DEA scheme is used in Government testbeds, Beacon schools, Classrooms of the Future as well as local schools across the UK. It is a national award winning scheme (Becta) and has featured in Curriculum-Online in the TES as a model of innovation and good practice.

For infant schools a combined licence is available for Dr John's New Digital Excellence Awards software and Digit Bear Bronze Awards:
This would be £5 per child setup cost for Key Stage 1 children for Dr John's New Digital Excellence Awards plus annual licence, £300 for Digit Bear software (No annual licence). So the combined Licence for Infant Schools would be soley related to the Dr John's New Digital Excellence Awards site licence figures (as above). Saving to school of £75 per year on the Digit Bear software licence.
